Position Summary
The Lead Caregiver serves as a senior caregiving professional who provides direct client care
while supporting quality, consistency, and communication between caregivers, clients, and office
staff. This role acts as a mentor and point of contact for caregivers in the field and assists with
training, coverage, and care coordination as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Client Care
- Provide high-quality, non-medical personal care services including assistance with:
- Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
- Mobility and transfers
- Meal preparation
- Light housekeeping
- Companionship and safety supervision
- Follow individualized care plans and report any changes in client condition to the office
promptly - Maintain client dignity, privacy, and respect at all times
Caregiver Support & Leadership
- Serve as a role model for professional caregiving standards and company values
- Assist with onboarding and mentoring new caregivers
- Provide guidance and support to caregivers in the field
- Serve as a first point of contact for caregiver questions during assigned shifts
- Assist with caregiver coverage when needed to ensure continuity of care
Communication & Documentation
- Communicate effectively with care coordinators, schedulers, and supervisors regarding:
- Client concerns
- Caregiver performance issues
- Schedule challenges
- Complete accurate and timely documentation, including shift notes and incident reports
- Report concerns related to safety, abuse, neglect, or exploitation in accordance with
company policy
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure care is delivered in compliance with agency policies, state regulations, and client care plans
- Support quality assurance efforts by identifying training needs or care improvements
- Adhere to confidentiality and HIPAA requirements at all times
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of professional caregiving experience (home care preferred)
- Demonstrated leadership, reliability, and strong communication skills
- Ability to train, mentor, and support other caregivers
- Able to work 12 hour shifts and be available to work with short notice
- Able to participate in on call rotation
- Knowledge of non-medical home care best practices
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and compassion
Required Certifications & Clearances
- Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Current auto insurance
- Ability to pass background checks in accordance with state and company requirements
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and assist with transfers as required
- Ability to perform job duties in various home environments
Work Environment
- Client homes and community settings
- Variable schedules including possible evenings, weekends, or on-call coverage
